About the abandoned location
The mini-golf course opened in the early 1990s and quickly became a favorite destination for tourists and locals alike. The 18-hole course was designed to resemble a tropical paradise, with lush greenery, waterfalls, and a variety of exotic plants and animals. Visitors could putt their way around the island, which was decorated with realistic-looking volcanoes and caves.
For over two decades, the course remained a popular destination, but it eventually fell into disrepair. This is when two local television anchors bought the mini golf course in 2012. They reopened it under new management, but had not calculated quite how large the cost would be to modernize and revamp the course. The business shuttered again in 2015. Now, it stands decaying amongst the outgrowth of a major Florida city.
Volcano Island Mini Golf was famous for its’ tiki vibe and large replica dinosaurs. It was one of many built over an extended period from the early 90s into the 2010s. Now you can go and see the park from the exterior, where nature has started to take over, with growths of underbrush surrounding the dinosaurs, and the course starting to disappear. It’s a meeting of modern society and the wilderness, and quite something to behold. The course is fenced off probably due to safety concerns from the decaying infrastructure.
Today, the abandoned volcano island mini-golf course is overgrown with weeds and vines, and the once-beautiful landscaping has been left to rot. The moat is filled with stagnant water, and the volcano structures are now rusted and crumbling. The only visitors to the site are urban explorers and photographers looking to capture the eerie beauty of the abandoned attraction.
This mini golf course hides a tiki/paleontological vibe, with giant dinosaurs sure to be seen. You’ll see the modernity of one of the most suburban attractions meet with the environment, with nature starting to take back what it once owned.
