About the abandoned visitor center
Located at mile marker 339.5 along the Blue Ridge Parkway, you can find the abandoned Crabtree Falls visitor center. The visitor center had closed in 2013 due a 5% decrease in the parks budgets and has not reopened since. The amphitheater and the visitor center remain closed, however the campground is open and the public can still use the parking lot to hike the near by trails to view the Crabtree waterfalls. The visitor center used to have a gift shop, coffee shop and other amenities for travelers to enjoy while taking a break from driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Just down the trail from the visitor center, you can find the amphitheater that once hosted concerts, plays and other entertainment for guest.
